The Latest on Harrison DB Charles Stewart

One of the best performances we saw at last year's MSU Nike Camp came from an underclassman named Charles Stewart. He transferred from Detroit Country Day to Farmington Hills Harrison at the beginning of the year and I lost track of him. I finally caught up with him again and we sat down at the Huron Relays last week for an interview. This hard-hitting athlete and he gave us the latest on where things stand with his recruitment.

Before I left Farmington Hills Harrison (for the Kyle Taylor interview), Coach Herrington gave me a few comments on Charles.

Tell me about Charles.

Charles is our best athlete. He played safety last year, but I think he's best suited for corner. I also played him at split end and tailback. He's very fast. We haven't timed him in the forty because he transferred in from Country Day last year. But, he came in running a 4.5. The thing about Charles is he's a huge, huge hitter. He really punishes the opponent.

Who's looking at him?

Michigan is recruiting, as is Michigan State. I know he has an offer on the table right now from Kentucky.

I was able to catch up Charles Friday at the Huron Relays at Eastern Michigan a few hours prior to one of his events.

Coach Herrington told me that he used you all over the field last year. What position do you think was your best?

My best position was safety. Coach may be moving me to corner this year though.

Can you give me your height, weight, and forty time?

I'm a little over 6'1", I weigh 191lbs, and I run between 4.4 and 4.5 in the forty.

What schools are you hearing from?

I have an offer from Kentucky right now, so I'm looking there. I'm also looking at Notre Dame, MSU and Michigan.

What camps will you be attending this year?

Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State, and possibly Penn State.

Will you be returning to the Nike Camp?

Yeah. I'll definitely be improving my forty time. I'll have it in the 4.4 range.

What were your Nike Stats last year?

I ran a 4.50 forty and a 4.10 shuttle.

What position is Michigan recruiting you at?

They're recruiting me as a DB. I'm not sure if it's for safety or corner yet.

I understand that you visited Michigan recently.

Yeah, I was at the first spring practice along with Ryan Mundy. It was pretty cool.

Do you know anyone on Michigan's team currently?

I know Braylon. I used to run for his dad (Stan Edwards) on the Maximum Output team.

What events do you run?

I run the 200 and the 100. My fastest times are 22.4 in the 200m and 10.9 in the 100m.

Will you be making an early decision or will you be waiting until after your season?

I want to make my decision by July.

What's going to be the criteria for you choice?

Location, academics, and the success of the football program.

Do you know what you want to major in?

If you had to put the teams on your list in order, could you do it?

No I couldn't. I don't really have a favorite right now.

What type of shot does Michigan have?

I really like Michigan. I've always wanted to go there. But, my decision won't be based on just that.
