Morris Leads Michigan Past Utah

Michigan improved to 7-2 on the season with a 75-64 win over the Utah Utes on Friday night at Crisler Arena in Ann Arbor. Darius Morris led U-Mwith 19 points and 10 assists. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 17.

ANN ARBOR -- Darius Morris led the Michigan basketball team to 7-2 on the season with his second straight double-double in a 75-64 win over the Utah Utes on Friday night at Crisler Arena. Tim Hardaway Jr. added 17 more for U-M.

Over the first 20 minutes the Wolverines surged to a 39-22 lead.

The teams opened matching buckets at 4-4 before Michigan used a 27-9 run to open up an 18-point lead at 31-13. Michigan stretched the lead to 10-4 on a pair of buckets by Jordan Morgan and a Morris layup.

With 10:25 left the lead was pushed to double digits for the first time with a Hardaway Jr. layup. Jon Horford, Morris and Matt Vogrich all them scored to make it 26-14 with 6:13 left in the first half. Morris then added five more of his team high 19 points to make it 31-13 with 5:29 on the clock.

The closing minutes saw the teams exchange points with U-M claiming the 17-point edge at the break. Morris finished with 13 of his 19 points in the opening half, plus tallied four assists.

In the second half the Wolverines pushed the lead to as high as 22 points halfway through the final period. Douglass gave Michigan the 22-point lead at 62-40 with 10:01 remaining. Zack Novak made good on a triple to give Michigan it's 20-point lead at 10:41 to set the stage for the Douglass layup.

Over the final 10 minutes the Utes trimmed to lead to 11 points but got no closer. Utah forward Jay Watkins scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half.

When the final horn sounded Michigan held a 75-64 edge.

Michigan returns to action Tuesday night hosting North Carolina Central at 7:00 p.m.
