It has only been a few days on the recruiting trail for new Michigan headman already it has become clear that a great deal of emphasis is being placed on fortifying his defensive back ranks. It should come as no surprise then that a lot of attention has been focused on Blake Countess and firming up his commitment to the Maize & Blue.

"We've spoken to Brady Hoke and to Chris Singletary," reported Countess' father Wendell.  As a matter of fact, we spoke to Chris Singletary earlier tonight (i.e. Monday night).  I think (Hoke) is a very motivated coach.  I think he is very sincere.  I think he knows that he had a little bit of a mountain in front of him but with that motivation and his expertise, it seems like he is ready to take on the challenge and move forward with it."

Hoke's presence has restored much of the comfort Michigan that was lost during because of the uncertainty that permeated the program in recent weeks.  It was during that time that the Countess family thought it best to come up with a contingency plan that included a visit to Penn State.  Upon their return from Happy Valley they insisted that their thought process hadn't changed – the visit was precautionary.

"Penn State was nice," said Mr. Countess.  We had told Brady Hoke that we were going up there because of so much going on (at Michigan).  Penn State was Penn State.  It was very nice.  It is a Big Ten facilities, academics.  It was nice.  But Blake is committed to Michigan, and that's what it is.  He is committed to Michigan."

"You know as well as I know when you have a lot of uncertainty, everybody has to have a plan A and a plan B.  It seems like (the Wolverines) are pulling it together.  They're bringing things back together and the picture gets a little clearer.  That's where we are man.  We're just trying to be educated consumers.  That's all we're doing.  It looks like things are shaping up and we looking forward to Coach Hoke and Coach Singletary coming in and speaking with us tomorrow."

Much of the discussion will center around how the younger Countess fits into the new defensive concept.  The family is certainly impressed with the man Hoke has tabbed to run his unit and are extremely encouraged by the direction of the program.

"That was a good move," said Mr. Countess regarding the hire of former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator, Greg Mattison.  "That's a good look there.  That was really a good look."

"Blake is committed to Michigan," he continued.  "He enjoys Michigan.  He believes in what Michigan is doing and it is right on point with what he hoped they were doing.  The picture is starting to get a whole lot clearer and it is making his decision a little easier."
