Sam Webb: I know you recently received your Michigan offer. How did you get word?
Jordan Simmons: "It came a couple of weeks ago. They talked to my coach."
Sam Webb: Prior to Michigan contacting you and extending the offer, did you have any interest in them?
Jordan Simmons: "Well I had interest and they had interest in me. Also, my mentor played for Michigan too, so he was very excited when he found out that they offered me, for three years."
Sam Webb: Who is your mentor?
Jordan Simmons: "His name is Courtney Morgan."
Sam Webb: I remember Courtney... he played in the late 90's/early 2000s and came in with his teammate Charles Drake. What has Courtney told you about Michigan?
Jordan Simmons: "He was just showing me videos on youtube and everything. He was showing me how he had a good time. He showed me pictures when they came out here for the Rose Bowl. He doesn't really talk about Michigan too much because he wants me to go wherever I feel comfortable at. He just told me that he had good times there."
Sam Webb: How did he become your mentor?
Jordan Simmons: "I was out at this camp one day called the B2G that he coaches and that was my first time playing football. This is my third year playing football ever. Courtney was like, ‘I got to get with this dude and I got to help him out and everything, got to get him right.' Ever since then, we started working out. I do the little B2G thing up there. We do skill player drills and all that, getting my footwork down. He just helps me out. He talks to me whenever I need him to. Something goes on with recruiting, he tells me what to say or how to approach the situation. He is somebody to help me out with my decision."
Sam Webb: What is your current height, weight and 40 time?
Jordan Simmons: "My height is 6'5". My weight is 324. My forty time is a 5.1, a 5.12."
Sam Webb: Is there a particular line position that schools are recruiting you for?
Jordan Simmons: "Just O-line. I prefer to play tackle or guard, but I don't want to play center. I would not play that."
Sam Webb: How many schools have offered you scholarships so far?
Jordan Simmons: "24."
Sam Webb: Have you even gotten to the point of figuring out who the top schools in your list are?
Jordan Simmons: "Me and my coach have been talking about that. He said when the time comes that we need to get a top ten together, but right now just keep all your options open and see what you can get. You never know what will happen -- you may end up going to a smaller school or something like that, small D1 school, like New Mexico State or something like that.
Sam Webb: You have schools as far away as Michigan offering you; have you given much thought to getting away from home to play college football yet?
Jordan Simmons: "Oh yeah. I used to travel a lot when I was younger without my parents."
Sam Webb: So distance isn't going to be a factor for you?
Jordan Simmons: "Probably not."
Sam Webb: What about weather? Could you handle life away from the California sun?
Jordan Simmons: "As long as they have the gear to keep me warm (laughter)."
Sam Webb: What are the main things that will factor into your decision?
Jordan Simmons: "Good education. That's one of the main reasons why I transferred to Crespi to get a good education."
Sam Webb: You said in the summer you are probably going to narrow it down to a top ten. Have you thought beyond that and given any thought to a timeline for how you would like to have this play out, would you like to have your decision made before your senior season, do you want to wait to after, have you given any thought to that at all?
Jordan Simmons: "February 2nd."
Sam Webb: Do you think that Michigan is going to be a school that you visit?
Jordan Simmons: "Like I said, I have to narrow it down from my top and just choose from there."
Sam Webb: What is your circle going to be, who are you going to rely on to help you in the recruiting process?
Jordan Simmons: "My mentor, Courtney, my parents, god and my head coach, and me."
GoBlueWolverine will have more on Simmons in the coming months.
