Senior forward Lavell Blanchard and Freshman point guard Daniel Horton were named co-MVPs for the 2002-2003 season at the annual basketball banquet Tuesday at Crisler arena. Blanchard's efforts this year allowed him to average 16.2 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Those stats were good enough to lead the team in both categories. This was the fourth consecutive year he has achieved that feat.

Daniel Horton's freshman campaign had already garnered a lot of attention. He had recently been named Big Ten Freshman of the Year and made the All Big Ten Second Team. His 15.2 points per game average was the second highest on the team, while 4.5 assists per game was first. He was the team's leader in minutes per game, averaging 36 minutes (out of forty). Some of those minutes came in a gallant effort on a badly sprained ankle in the opening game of the big ten tournament. Those numbers, accompanied by uncanny leadership for a freshman, made him well worthy of sharing the honor with his elder teammate.
