Offensive lineman Jon Skinner (2002 U-M Camper, 6-4, 280 lbs., 5.1 in the 40, 385 lb. bench press) from Mount Carmel, Pa. tore his ACL in the third game of his junior season, but he didn't get surgery until after his team won the Pennsylvania State Championship. He was a 2002 Michigan camper. And he is one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top twelve offensive tackles. We chatted with Jon's coach Wed. morning.
Please talk about Jon as a player.
"He's a tough kid - he played through the injury last year. He tore the ACL in week three, and he returned to action at week ten for the playoffs, playing at about 80%. We went 15-0 last year and won the Divsion Two State Championship."
"He's about a month and a half ahead of schedule as far as rehabbing goes. He's running well now, and doing squats, and he should be cleared to return to action by the end of June. He's cut some weight, so he's not carrying too much -- he's a legit 6-5 and 280 lbs. now. The doctors say he'll have no problems this season, and that he'll have full flexibility."
"He's a raw kid as far as his development as a player goes. Physically he's mature and developed, he's a weight lifter. As far as a player, the sky's the limit for him. He does everything well, he has good hands, good feet."
Did he say anything to you about his visit last weekend?
"He liked Michigan a lot. He likes the offensive line coach at Michigan, Coach Moeller. He likes Coach Loeffler who was his recruiter until recently. Michigan is one of the places he is real serious about."
"He camped at Michigan last summer, and came back very impressed. They brought in a few guys during camp to watch video, and Jon was one of those. When he left Michigan last summer he felt really good about them. He camped last summer at Michigan, PSU, Notre Dame (he has an uncle that lives near South Bend)."
What does the spring look like for Jon?
"Jon visited Pitt this spring and got an offer from them. He also went to Penn State and will go to their spring game. He's going to Virginia Tech this weekend, he'll go to Ohio State the weekend after that. He's also visiting Maryland and Virginia."
"Jon has all the tools. The most impressive thing about him -- playing with that torn ACL last fall. He's a can't miss kid. He's also a top student with a 4.0 core GPA, he's second academically in his class."
