Ron Thompson has moved the finish line in his recruitment numerous times over the last few months. Completing the transfer process from Eastpointe high to Southfield high took priority. With that now out of the way he again has a general idea of when an announcement will take place.
"I'll have a decision by May 11th," Thompson said. "I don't know how I'm going to do it yet."
To date Thompson's offer list consists of Michigan, Syracuse, Bowling Green, Indiana, Toledo, and Vanderbilt. He's recently declined to mention any favorites among his suitors, but those that have offered most likely hold that distinction.
Michigan had been mentioned as the four-star prospect's leader multiple times throughout the recruiting process thanks in part to its status as his childhood favorite. However, many began questioning his standing on Michigan's recruiting board last week when Devin Funchess and A.J. Williams pledged to the Maize & Blue. The coaching staff in Ann Arbor wasted little time alleviating any concerns that Thompson himself may have had.
"Coach Jackson came by (Southfield high school) Monday," he reported. "I wasn't able to talk to him there, but they've talked to me about (about getting two other tight end commitments). They talked about me playing some wideout and tight end. They said I'm still their guy."
With that understood and no plans to take anymore visits in the coming weeks, Scout.com's #5 tight end appears to have a pretty clear idea of what he wants to do. At the moment he is determined to keep that to himself. At the same time, a number of Michigan recruits… some committed and some not… are determined to make sure he winds up in the Maize & Blue.
"They're on me every day on facebook," Thompson said laughingly. "(An uncommitted in-state defender) is on me the most."
Stay tuned to GoBlueWolverine for more on Thompson in the coming weeks.
