Sam Webb: Since we last spoke at the Army combine, how many offers have you picked up?
Sam Webb: When is the last time you heard from Michigan?
Ondre Pipkins: "They were at my school yesterday (i.e. Monday)."
Sam Webb: Which coach came by?
Ondre Pipkins: "Coach Heck(linski). He is supposed to be coming back up in the next two to three weeks."
Sam Webb: Give me your impressions of Coach Heck?
Ondre Pipkins: "I can tell that he is a good coach with a personality to get after it. He told me, ‘we've just got to focus on getting you to be a Wolverine.' He talks about finishing school strong. He was like, ‘I mean business.' He told me, ‘work hard this summer and be a leader for your teammates and lead them to a state championship.'"
Sam Webb: Give me the overall vibe that you're getting off Michigan right now?
Ondre Pipkins: "It's a great vibe. That's home. The coaches are all about doing great in the classroom. They're a firm believer in that. They're one of those coaching staffs that see that you do what you need to do. You will succeed there, but you have to put in the work and the time. I have been getting a good feeling from them and I like the coaching staff a lot. That's how I feel about it."
Sam Webb: Have they talked to you about where they see you fitting into their defense?
Ondre Pipkins: "Yes, they want me to possibly be a four year starter because they're only taking one nose guard, and I can be that nose guard and come in and play for four years. That's mainly what they tell me… that I can just come in and play nose for a straight four years and graduate and take a chance of getting to the NFL."
Sam Webb: What other Michigan coaches have you spoken to?
Ondre Pipkins: "I talked to Coach Mattison a lot and Coach Manning. That's about it right now."
Sam Webb: Tell me about Coach Mattison. What are your thoughts on him now that you've talked to him a little bit?
Ondre Pipkins: "You can tell he has a good personality. He gets after it too. He came from the Baltimore Ravens and his personality is just, ‘get your job done, no excuses, no nothing.' He is talking about moving forward and getting the job done the first time instead of the second time. I get a vibe that I can get along with the whole coaching staff."
Sam Webb: When he talked to you about the defense, did he compare you to someone on the Ravens' defense? Did he say this guy right here on the Ravens' defense is you? Has he done that with you?
Ondre Pipkins: "Yeah Haloti Ngata."
Sam Webb: As far as visits are concerned, are they targeting camp for you to come in for a visit?
Ondre Pipkins: "No they don't want me to come in for camp. They want me on an official visit. They already know that I can play football so they are going to be recruiting again. Probably for an official visit."
Sam Webb: When we were down in San Antonio you told us that the Michigan schools were sticking out for you. Is that still the case?
Ondre Pipkins: "Alabama is supposed to see my coach tomorrow (Wednesday) and do an evaluation and check out my grades and stuff like that. They are sticking out. Oregon is sticking out. Missouri is too. Michigan and Michigan State… they're at the top right now."
Sam Webb: Do you still have family back around this way?
Ondre Pipkins: "Yeah my dad still lives up there, my granddad, and a lot of people on my mom's side still live up there."
Sam Webb: Being from Saginaw you said Lamarr was a guy you really look up to. Have you talked to him about Michigan?
Ondre Pipkins: "He really is not pushing the recruiting thing, but I haven't got around to talking about him Michigan. The last time I talked to him was probably in the fall or something like that. I don't like to bother him. I know he has got a job to do and it requires a lot of time and a lot of hard work. I'll probably get in touch with him the next couple of weeks or something like that just to see what's up, see how he is doing, and see what's his take on Michigan and why he choose them. I'll probably talk to him in the next couple of weeks."
Sam Webb: Do you have an idea of when you would like to make a decision?
Ondre Pipkins: "If not before my season in July, probably after it in November or something. If something comes through I'll definitely take it into consideration, but there is a timeframe from July until November is probably when I make a decision really."
Sam Webb: Let us assume that you make a decision in July… is it possible that you would commit to a school that you haven't visited yet?
Ondre Pipkins: "I have to visit it first. I think I'm going to go ahead and visit Michigan and Michigan State in the summer just to see what's up and see how their campus is, and we'll go from there. I definitely want to get my schools that I like out of the way the first, just so I can compare and say there is no place like this or no place like that."
Sam Webb: Let us pretend that you're getting ready to sit down and make that choice, what will be the most significant factors?
Ondre Pipkins: "One, the business administration program. I know Michigan and Michigan State are up there in that particular subject. Two, a school who also says I can come in and start right away. If not start then split time right off the bat. Last, a school who is going to let me use my athleticism and not put me in at one single position like nose guard or something like that. Those are the main factors right there. "
Stay tuned to GoBlueWolverine for much more on Ondre Pipkins in the coming weeks.
