Keeping up with Pa. LM A.Q. Shipley

The last time we spoke with A.Q. Shipley, in early April, he informed us of his plans to visit Michigan in the near future. With that visit completed, see what Shipley had to say about his recent trip to Ann Arbor. spoke on Thursday evening with Pennsylvania's top lineman, OL/DL A.Q. Shipley (6-3, 270 lbs, 4.9 in the forty) from Coraopolis, PA, Moon HS. The talented lineman who recorded 70 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, 6 sacks as a junior, filled us in on his recent visit to Michigan.

What did you think of your visit to Michigan?

Oh, it was unreal. It was unbelievable.

Did you get to see a practice?

I actually went up after spring ball was over. So they had a whole itinerary set up for my visit.

So you got to go on a tour of the campus?

Yeah, I did.

What did you think?

It was wild. I met with the academic advisor for about an hour or so. I went on a tour of the campus, then came back and ate lunch with Coach Loeffler. I then went on a tour of the stadium and met with Coach Carr. Then I met with Coach Moeller and Coach Sheridan for about a half an hour to an hour each. We just discussed all of the opportunities I'd have if I go there.

Did they talk to you about what position you'd play?

They actually don't know where they want to play me. The two line coaches were fighting about where to play me: offense or defense.

The last time we talked, you said that you preferred defense. Is that still the case?

Well, I like nose guard right now, but the more I think about it, I'm starting to like center more. So I just have mixed feelings about it.

Did the coaches talk to you about getting a scholarship offer?

They basically did everything but offer. I mean, they said that they want me to play there and everything. I think the final step is going to be – they want me to come up for a day in the summer so I can work with the coaches, get to know the players, and just get more comfortable. I think that will be the final step toward getting an offer.

Did you get to meet any of the players while you were there?

Yeah, I got to meet (Tony) Pape. I met (Tim) Massaquoi – he's from my area. And I also got to meet one of the quarterbacks: Spencer Brinton. I think that was it.

Do you have a leader?

No, not really. I'm still wide open. Michigan's definitely up there, but I've got it pretty much narrowed down to eight schools right now.

When you talked to the academic advisor, did you talk about a major?

Yeah, I want to major in business. I got to visit the business school. It was pretty incredible.

A.Q. Shipley rates as's #5 player in Pennsylvania, and Max Emfinger rates him as the nation's #1 offensive center.
