PSU Nike: Interviewing The Speedsters

We were priviledged to be able to do one-on-one interviews during the PSU Nike Camp. Fortunately, Sam, Matt and I were fast enough to catch up with speedsters Pa. RB Andrew Johnson and Oh. DB Tedd Ginn.

We had a leasurely chat with Andrew Johnson, the 5-10 1/2, 199 lbs. speed-deluxe back from Pittsburgh North Hills.

Who are your favorites, Andrew?

"Pitt, UCLA, Michigan, Virginia Tech, and Miami."

Who has offered you a scholarship?

"Pitt, Virginia Tech, Iowa and Wisconsin have offered."

What will factor into your decision?

"I'll definitely look at the depth charts of the teams recruiting me. I'd like to play early. Michigan just got a transfer, didn't they? It'd be nice to decide early, to get it out of the way and be able to concentrate on school and the season. We'll see if all the schools I like have offered by then. I'd definitely like to decide before the playoffs start."

What are your summer plans?

"I don't plan to go to any camps this summer. I will get over to Michigan in May though."

Have you heard much from Ryan Mundy (Ryan and Andrew are best friends)?

"I thought Ryan would try to recruit me for Michigan, but he isn't. He's just letting me make my own decision."

One of the USA's top five cornerbacks, Ted Ginn, 6-1+, 175 lb. (my estimation) from Cleveland Glenville (Pierre Woods' alma mater) talked to us with his father, Glenville Head Coach Tedd Ginn Sr.

Who are your favorites, Tedd?

"Ohio State, Pitt, Iowa, Michigan, Miami."

Tedd had just finished his 40 yard dash heats when we grabbed him, so we asked him how he did.

Tedd, with a disappointed scowl: "I ran a 4.31." (Note: the 40's and shuttles are hand-timed at the Nike camps). Tedd Ginn Sr., said to him: "Don't worry about it, my stop-watch said 4.27." We asked Tedd his shuttle time? "4.1 seconds." Vertical jump? Tedd shook his head: "I couldn't get the hang of that vertical jump machine."

Tedd Sr. said to Tedd Jr: "Anaylsts are saying you're a shoe-in for OSU." Tedd Jr, with just a hint of another scowl, looked up at his dad and said: "Uh uh."

A Glenville assistant later said to us, "Tedd's mother likes Michigan a lot."
