U-M Nike:D-1 Prospects:Updated

Updating the 35-or-so possible Big-Ten-caliber prospects we spotted at the U-M Nike -- including two new additions, and most Nike stats.<br><br> Also, the 6 kids' stats we tracked at the PSU Nike.

Note: most of the stats listed are for those kids whose stats were in the top 20 in something, or were generally rated at the top at their position.

The Michigan Nike Camp:

Quarterbacks: a very good list, the best yet in the three State of Michigan Nike Camps.

1. Brian Hoyer (U-M Nike stats: 6-3, 180 lbs., 4.81 in the 40, 2 bench press reps., 29.1 inch vertical, 4.29 sec. shuttle) from Cleveland St. Ignatius.
2. Mike Vlahogeorge (U-M Nike stats: 6-4, 220 lbs., 5.15 in the 40, 10 bench press reps., 27.9 inch vertical, 4.66 sec. shuttle) from Lafayette, Ind., Jefferson

5. Michael Faulds (U-M Nike stats: 6-2.5, 200 lbs., 25 bench press reps.) from St. Andrews, Rockwood, Ontario, Can.
6. Earnest Jackson (U-M Nike stats: 6-3, 185 lbs., 10 bench press reps., 31.3 inch vertical, 4.16 sec. shuttle) from Det. Country Day.
7. Brian Brunner (U-M Nike stats: 6-2.5, 205 lbs., 4.86 in the 40, bench press reps., 29.6 inch vertical, 4.30 sec. shuttle) from Hartford, Wis.

Running Backs: not a long list, but top-heavy.

1. Greg Coleman from Iowa City, Ia., West (he was present but didn't work out).
2. Justin Hoskins (U-M Nike stats: 5-10, 183 lbs.,4.41 in the 40 {2nd best in camp}, 4.10 shuttle, 33.4 inch vertical 19 bench press reps.) from Grand Rapids, Mich., Creston.
3. Derek Brooks (U-M Nike stats: 5-10, 165 lbs., 4.45 in the 40) from Det. (Redford) Catholic Central
4. Eric Lyght (U-M Nike stats: 5-7.5, 170 lbs., 28 bench press reps.) from Det. Cass Tech.

Wide Receivers: another very good group, comparable to the Tabb/Brown/Shabaj group two years ago.

Offensive Linemen: a better-than-first-glance list.

3. Trent Varva (U-M Nike stats: 6-2.5, 310 lbs., 29 bench press reps., 23.6 inch vertical, 4.90 sec. shuttle, 2.9 GPA) from Lake Orion, Mich.
4. Larry Luster (U-M Nike stats: 6-0.5, 288 lbs., 29 bench press reps.) from Springfield, Ill., Sacred Heart-Griffin.

Defensive Linemen: not a long list, but a very talented group.

1. Vernon Gholston (U-M Nike stats: 6-3, 238 lbs., 4.45 in the 40, 31 bench press reps., 3.0 GPA) from Det. Cass Tech.
2. Ronald Talley (U-M Nike stats: 6-3.5, 230 lbs., 5.12 in the 40, 17 bench press reps., 27.2 inch vertical, 4.69 sec. shuttle) from Det. Renaissance Detroit. Note: as Student Sports noted, he was faster off the ball than his 40 time indicaltes.
3. Carvin Nash (U-M Nike stats: 6-3, 267 lbs., 5.43 in the 40, 13 bench press reps., 23.5 inch vertical, 5.03 sec. shuttle) from Det. Pershing.
4. *Top Sleeper: Will Johnson (U-M Nike stats: 6-4.5, 278 lbs, 5.15 40, 30 bench press reps., 27.9 inch vertical, 4.56 sec. shuttle, 3.8 GPA) from Lake Orion, Mich.

Linebackers: a very good group which (along with QB's and WR's) may have gotten the most college-coach attention.

1. Marcus Freeman (U-M Nike stats: 6-1, 235, 4.62 in the 40, 4.37 sec. shuttle, 32.4 inch vertical, 25 bench press reps.) from Huber Hts. Oh., Wayne.
2. Kyle Williams (U-M Nike stats: 6-1.5, 219 lbs., 4.59 in the 40, 36.5 vertical jump {2nd best in camp}, 4.43 sec. shuttle) from Bolingbrook, Ill.
3. Brandon Logan from Lexington, Ky., Catholic.
4. Roger Allison (U-M Nike stats: 6-1.5, 229 lbs., 4.6 in the 40,4.31 sec. shuttle, 31.2 inch vertical, 27 bench press reps.) from Lake Orion, Mich.
5. Wendell Brown from Det. Martin Luther King.

Defensive Backs: not a great group, but Stewart did well and Simmons surprised.

3. Allen Langford (U-M Nike stats: 5-9.5, 181 lbs., 31.7 inch vertical) from Det. Cass Tech.

The Penn State Nike Camp:

Quarterback Chad Henne from West Lawn, Pa., Wilson. He did not do any of the measurements of tests, he only worked out in the passing drills. Still, he told me he is a true 6-3, and he is 230+ lbs.

Quarterback Anthony Morelli (PSU Nike stats: 6-3.5, 208 lbs., 4.25 sec. shuttle, 30 inch vertical,18 bench press reps., 2.3 GPA) from Pittsburgh Penn Hills.

Running back Andrew Johnson (PSU Nike stats: 5-10 1/2, 199, 4.22 40 {tied the all-time Nike record}, 36.6 inch vertical, 4.11 sec. shuttle, 15 bench press reps.) from Pittsburgh North Hills.

Defensive back Ted Ginn (PSU Nike stats: 5-11.5, 169 lbs., 4.31 in the 40) from Cleveland Glenville.

Defensive end Dewayne Hendricks (PSU Nike stats: 6-4, 255 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 30-inch vertical, 3.0 GPA/900 SAT) from Milville, New Jersey.

Offensive lineman Quincey Rain (PSU Nike stats: 6-3, 287 lbs., 5.25 in the 40) from Harrisburg, Pa., Bishop McDevitt.
