Derrick Walton's recruitment seemed to just be heating up. The Michigan State Spartans were the latest to show an increased interest. Despite that the talented youngster opted moments ago to commit to Michigan.
One of the traits the Wolverines emphasized most was the versatility and freedom Darius Morris was able to display in Beilein's offense. It's an attribute that Walton had already come to appreciate during the season.
"(I liked) the way they spread the floor and let him work off the pick and rolls," he said. "Sometimes they posted him up and made him a really good draft prospect this."
Another consideration is the a strong relationship he has built with the Michigan staff throughout his recruitment. It is so strong that in the months leading up to his June 15th offer date, serious conversations about an offer came up numerous times.
"They really told me they'll offer me, but they're not going to offer me unless I'm going to take it ," recalled Walton. "So basically they said if I'm not going to commit they're just not going to offer me."
It may have taken a few weeks to get come to a decision, but that commitment finally came.
