Alabama RB #2: Markus Manson

I talked to the head coach of Alabama's top speed running back, Markus Manson. Is the Detroit native interested in Michigan?

Head Coach Bart Harper of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Hilcrest was happy to talk about his star running back Markus Manson, Tom Lemming's #12 running back.

"Michigan is interested in Markus, as are quite a few other schools. He's 6-1, 190 lbs. He's real strong, and he's got a lot of speed ... he's a legit 4.3 in the 40. He can break away or run over you. He's started for us since 9th grade, and he had a tremendous year last year. He rushed for 1900+ yards, and he had 2,200 all purpose yards."

Markus has family in Detroit?

"His mom and dad both live in Detroit. Marcus has lived here all his life though, with his aunt and grandma."

Is Michigan recruiting Markus? And who else is recruiting him?

"A Michigan coach called today, Coach Jackson. He'll call Marcus, and make a visit to the school here. Markus has offers from Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Arkansas. Numerous people want him to commit now, but he won't do that. He'll go through his senior season, get his test score, and then do the recruiting after."

Markus runs track as well?

"He was the MVP at the 6-A (largest classification) state indoor track meet last winter. He ran the 55 meters and the long jump (23-8). But he pulled his hamstring and missed the outdoor season this spring. He's one of the three fastest kids in the state in 6-A football."

How are his academics?

"His grade point is over s 3.0, but he's got to take the test. He's a good young man. He has a good head on his shoulders."
