Ala. RB Max Martin's "Main One"

Perhaps Dixie's top Big Back is Max Martin from Madison, Ala., Bob Jones (in the Huntsville area). I talked Wed. evening to the Bama Back who grew up in the Midwest.

I asked Max Martin (6-2, 210 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 305-lb.bench press, 2.5 GPA/24 ACT) from Madison, Ala., Bob Jones (in the Huntsville area) if Michigan had been to his school yet.

"No, but Coach Jackson said he'd be down next week. I hope so."

You grew up in the Midwest?

"I lived in Chicago until I was 10 years old. It's my favorite spot. Actually I was born in Orlando, then we moved to Chicago when I was three. Then when I was ten my dad got a job down here."

Who are you favorites?

"Michigan is my favorite. Then LSU, South Carolina, Alabama and Auburn make up my top five."

Who has offered you a scholarship?

"All my favorites have offered me, plus Vanderbilt, Iowa State, Arkansas and Georgia."

You have a Michigan offer?

"A Michigan offer -- yes. Coach Jackson said he saw my tape, then when he called this month he offered me, he said I had a Michigan scholarship. And then he hand-wrote me two letters saying so as well."

Are you going to the Auburn Nike camp, or to any summer camps?

"I'm not sure yet about the Nike Camp, I'll check again with my coach and decide."

"As far as summer camps , I'll camp for one day at all of my favorites and Georgia as well. Michigan too? I'm going to Michigan for a day, yes sir -- that's the main one!"

In eight games as a junior, Martin rushed for 1,069 yards (7.7 yards per carry); he also caught five passes for 133 yards and four more touchdowns; on defense was an outside linebacker in five games, making 53 tackles and two sacks. He prefers running back. He is's #8 tailback.
