GoBlueWolverine spoke this (Thursday) evening with Highlands Ranch, Colorado (Valor Christian) offensive lineman Alex Kozan (6-4-295), who told us:
"My head coach called me into his office today, and we called Michigan's O-line coach, Coach Funk - who told me I had a Michigan offer."
GBW: Were you surprised? Had you been getting recruited by Michigan previously?
"No I hadn't been, not really. My coach hadn't sent film to them back in the spring. But the other week Coach Funk called, and we send him film. He liked it, so we sent him my last game as well -- and he liked what he saw so he offered me."
GBW: So fill us in on your recruiting process so far.
"In the spring and summer I kind've went all over ... I visited a lot of Big Ten schools - but not Michigan - I visited UNC, a lot of SEC schools, and a lot of PAC 12 schools."
GBW: Have you taken or scheduled any official visits yet?
"I visited Iowa on September 23rd. And I've got one scheduled to LSU for the Auburn game (Oct. 22nd). I might take one more during the season, and the rest after the season. I have not decided what schools they'll be to -- I haven't a clue."
GBW: Do you have a Top 5?
"I'd had a top seven schools: Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, LSU, Oklahoma State, and Oregon."
GBW: Okay, so let's talk Michigan a little. Do they have any shot at you?
"Yes -- I'll definitely put them right in that top group. They have a great business school - top 5 in the country - which is what I want. And they have a new coaching staff with Coach Hoke that has been making a lot of progress in a short amount of time."
"So I'm just taking things day by day and considering all the schools -- if I decide to take an official visit to Michigan it'll be after the season."
GBW: You look like a road-grader on film -- do you see yourself as a guard at the next level, or a tackle?
"Most colleges feel I'm a guard or center ... that's what Coach Funk told me too."
GoBlueWolverine will keep track of Kozan to see if he adds the Wolverines to his official visit list in the future.
