Does DB Lambert Have a U-M Offer?

I spoke with standout Ventura, Calif., St. Bonaventure DB Terrail Lambert Saturday morning. The questions were: has U-M offered him a scholarship, and does U-M remain at the top for him?

GBW had been told by Terrail Lambert (5-11, 187 lbs., 4.21 in the 40 at the USC Combine, 4.08 sec. shuttle at the US Army Combine, 3.4 GPA, 880 SAT) that the Michigan coaches would be visiting him towards the end of May. The questions were: would there be an offer and would Michigan remain at the top for him? I had previously reported from the Stanford Nike Camp that a well-informed USC guy told me that if Lambert still had U-M as his favorite by the end of May he would be worried.

Is May 24th close enough to the end of the month?

Lambert has been difficult to track down due to injuries, which kept him from attending the Nike Camps at USC and Stanford. But I reached him Saturday, and his answers to my questions are enlightening.

Did you get a visit from the U-M coaches?

"Yes, Coach Ron English was at my school last week. He told me they were very interested in me. We watched some film and I thought it went real well."

Did Coach English offer you a scholarship?

"No, not at this time. I'm pretty comfortable with Coach English, I've known him since the 8th grade. He says he likes the way I react to the ball, and my quickness."

What are your top five schools?

"Michigan, USC, Florida State, Notre Dame, and San Diego State."

Do you have a favorite?

"I'd have to say Michigan."

Do you have any offers?

"I have offers right now from Northwestern, Oregon State, and I just got an offer from San Diego State this week."

What do you like about Michigan?

"The atmosphere; they have a big stadium. I also like that they are big on DB's. And it's a great school."

What do you think about playing in front of 110,000 fans?

"WOW, the biggest crowd I've ever been in was 85,000 and that was pretty big, I can't imagine what 110,000 is like. The biggest crowd I played in front of in high school was about 10,000, and I thought that was pretty loud."

"Snow isn't a problem either. Every school is going to have it's pros and cons and I'm going to take everything in about every school I'm looking at and pick the best for me. My family is really supportive and they are letting me make the decision. Of course they are counseling me because they've 'been there' before, but it's going to be up to me."

You've been hurt recently, which has caused you to miss the Nike Camps at USC and Stanford; how is your rehab progressing?

"Real good, we started our spring practice this past week. The coaches are hoping to ease me into some of the drills next week. I've been running and I feel good."

Lambert is an excellent student with a 3.4 GPA. He took the SAT in April, scoring an 880, and plans to retake it in order to raise that number above 1000.
