Michigan reeled in commitments quick and consistently in the class of 2012 allowing the coaching staff to put an even greater focus on 2013 early on.
One young man benefiting from the early attention is Toledo Central Catholic safety Jayme Thompson.
"After my first game they sent my coach a letter and Coach Montgomery came to the school and met with me,' said Thompson. ‘After that is when we started talking a lot."
A lot of contact is an understatement according to the young man who says it seems like he and Coach Montgomery are in contact everyday.
The 6'2, 190 pound safety enjoyed the attention enough to make a trip up to Ann Arbor to check out the Wolverines in action against rival Notre Dame. After the visit Thompson and his dad, who was also in attendance, definitely liked what they saw.
"I liked it a lot,' said Thompson of the experience. ‘I really enjoyed my time at the game, the fans and the atmosphere. I went with my dad. He liked it a lot too, he's always liked Michigan."
After three seasons of uncharacteristic performances out of the Michigan defense, Thompson see's wolverines turning the corner.
"You can tell that the program is on the up swing and I like the defenses that they run now. I like the way they use their safeties."
With so much contact from Michigan, has there been any talk of an offer?
"Yes," said an excited Thompson. ‘I'm actually setting up an unofficial visit during the week to go around campus and meet the coaches. It'll be soon but my team is in the playoffs so I can't miss practice."
With Thompson's father being a fan of the Maize and Blue, it was like father like son when it came to college football.
"Michigan was my favorite team. I've always liked Michigan."
With an offer from Michigan potentially coming soon, Thompson will still try to wait things out with two school's currently on his mind.
"I'm going to try to wait things out. It's basically between two schools right now, Michigan and West Virginia. West Virginia is the second offer I've got and I really like the coaches there."
Thompson and Toledo Central Catholic will be in action in round two of the playoffs this Friday night against Avon High.
