As with the QB/RB/WR's we have a revision to the May 26th list. Here is our post- Memorial-Day "Best Guess Recruiting Class List:" LB's & DB's (including those with offers, and those without).

Our Best Guess Football Recruiting Class list is somewhat less developed for linebackers and defensive backs than for other positions. Here is what we have as of Memorial Day. "Best Guess Recruiting Class List:" LB's & DB's (including those with offers, and those without). May 29, 2003

Linebackers

- Marcus Freeman (planned 2003 U-M Camper, U.S. Army Combine stats: 6-2, 225 lbs, 4.66 in the 40, 4.22 shuttle, 30-inch vertical jump, 28 bench press reps. of 185 lbs. ... U-M Nike stats: 6-1, 235, 4.62 in the 40, 4.37 sec. shuttle, 32.4 inch vertical, 25 bench press reps. … 430-pound bench press, 575 lb. Squat, 3.6 GPA/18 ACT/990 SAT) from Huber Heights, Ohio, Wayne. At the U.S. Army combine he told us that this is likely to be an OSU/U-M recruiting battle. As of May, OSU has the early lead. He received a Michigan OFFER at the Feb. OSU basketball game junior day. As a junior he made 152 tackles and 29 tackles for loss. He is one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top two inside linebackers.

- Dan Connor (6-3, 220 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 3.2 GPA/1050 SAT) from Wallingford (near Philly), Penn., Strath Haven. He visited U-M during his spring break in mid-April. He has a U-M OFFER. PSU and Notre Dame may be the main competition. As a junior he made 150 tackles and three interceptions; as a RB he ran for 1,600 yards and 27 touchdowns. He would like to make a summer decision. He is one of MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top three weakside linebackers.

- Brian Toal (6-2, 225 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 10.8 100 meters, 3.0 GPA/960 SAT) from Ramsey, NJ, Don Bosco. He ran a 10.8 100 meters in a track meet this spring. He attended a U-M spring practice, and told us, "I went to Michigan for their first scrimmage. I met with Coach Carr and he OFFERed me a scholarship." U-M is in his top five. As a junior, Toal recorded 102 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, and 12 and a half sacks; as a running back he rushed for 1,275 yards and 22 touchdowns; he also had over 500 receiving yards. NEW - Eugene Germany (Sept. 13 U-M visit, USC Nike stats: 6-3 1/2, 248 lbs…. 4.65 in the 40, 2.3 GPA) from Pomona, Calif. He reportedly grew up a U-M fan, and his coach and his recruiter Ron English are friends. He has told a U-M offer is coming when he talks to Coach Carr, and as of late May told us U-M is his FAV.

- Roger Allison (Planned 2003 U-M Camper, U-M Nike stats: 6-1 1/2, 229 lbs., 27 bench press reps.) from Lake Orion, Mich. He attended a U-M spring practice. He attended the MSU football game last fall. In mid-Feb. his father told us, "Roger and Michigan? He'd love to go to Michigan. If U-M offers him where will he get a better offer?" He also attended an MSU winter junior day.

- Tyrell Sales (6-3, 225 lbs., 4.7 in the 40, good student) from Butler, (in Western) Pa. As of late May U-M had not offered, but is interested. As a junior he recorded 90 tackles and seven sacks.

- Brandon Logan (2002 U-M Camper, 6-0, 210 lbs., 4.7 in the 40, 33 inch vertical jump) from Lexington, Ky., Catholic. He attended the 2002 U-M Summer Camp, and the 2003 U-M Nike Camp. U-M recruited his brother, WR John Logan, last year.

- Fullback/Linebacker Dan Lawlor (Planned summer U-M visit, 6-2, 230 lbs., 4.6 in the 40). He also has a 300+ maximum bench press) from Mechanicsburg, Pa., Cumberland Valley (in central Pa.) Last season Lawlor ran for 1,200 yards on 147 carries with 23 touchdowns. In two seasons as the starting fullback he has 2,634 yards and 47 scores.

Defensive Backs

- Charles Stewart (Planned 2003 U-M Camper, U-M Nike stats: 6-1 1/2, 188 lbs., 4.47 in the 40) from Farmington Hills, Mich., Harrison. He was the top DB at the U-M Nike Camp. He attended the MSU football game last fall, the OSU basketball game junior day, and the first spring practice. He wants to make a summer decision, and may get a scholarship offer at the U-M Summer Camp. As a junior he made 59 tackles and intercepted 2 passes.

- Donte Herrod (Planned 2003 U-M Camper, V-Tech Nike stats: 6-1, 190 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 2.7 GPA/980 SAT) from Washington D.C., H.D. Woodson. Michigan has reportedly OFFERed him.

- Jamar Adams (Planned 2003 U-M Camper, 2001 U-M Camper, V-Tech Nike stats: 6-2 1/2,193 lbs., 4.13 sec. Shuttle, 33.2 inch vertical jump … 3.2 GPA/940 SAT) from Matthews, N.C., Butler. U-M watched him at the V-Tech Nike and then visited him at his school. U-M and FSU are his favorites.

NEW - Greg Hines (Aub. Nike stats: 6-1, 200 lbs., … 4.5 in the 40) from Southaven, Miss. U-M visited his school in May, and reportedly is very interested in him.

NEW - Keston Cheathem (6-3, 190 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 3.0 GPA, June 7th SAT) from Pomona, Calif. U-M visited his school in May, told him they plan to offer him, and are his FAV.

- Randy Estes (6-1, 185 lbs., 4.5 in the 40 … Stan. Nike stats: 35 inch vertical jump, 15 bench press reps … 2.7 GPA) from Los Alamitos, Ca. (in the LA area). He was the Stanford Nike's MVP. U-M is in his top five, although USC is considered his favorite.

- Cortney Grixby (5-10, 165 lbs., 4.4 in the 403.2 GPA/18 ACT) from Omaha, Neb., Central. U-M has not offered him but visited his school in May.

- Darelle Revis (6-0, 180 lbs., 4.4 in the 40) from Aliquippa, Pa. (Ty Law's alma mater). Michigan visited his school in May.

- Quran Barge (Planned 2003 U-M Camper, 5-11, 200 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 2.5 GPA) from Camden, N.J., Catholic. Contrary to reports, he does not have a U-M offer as of the end of May. As a junior he made 95 tackles; as a TB he ran for 1,560 yards and 17 touchdowns.

- Ted Ginn (2002 Michigan camper, U.S. Army Combine stats: 6-2, 187 lbs., 28.0 vertical jump, 4.40 in the 40, 4.17 in the shuttle, 28-inch vertical jump … PSU Nike stats: 5-11.5, 169 lbs., 4.31 in the 40) from Cleveland, Ohio, Glenville. Ted's father, the Glenville Head Coach, told us this winter, "Ted likes Ohio State, but he likes Michigan too. In fact Ted loves Michigan, but he also loves Ohio State. He has grown up following both." Ginn's senior and junior were at the OSU game junior day. And Ted camped at Michigan last summer with Donte Whitner. In fact he has been at the Michigan camp the past three years. He has a Michigan OFFER. He is MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's top cornerback. Ginn was the top hurdler in the state last year as a sophomore, running the 110-meter hurdles in 13.96.

- Terrail Lambert from Ventura, Calif., Saint Bonaventure had US Army combine stats of: 5-11, 187 lbs., 4.43 in the 40 (on a slow track), 4.08 sec. shuttle (pro agility), 32-inch vertical, twelve bench press reps of 185 lbs. Participants were given a 'score' based on all these stats -- and Lambert finished with the highest score overall. At the May USC Combine he was timed with a 4.21 sec. 40. In late May he told us that U-M is still his FAV. In early March he told us, "When I first started following college football, in 4th or 5th grade, it was Michigan that I became a fan of. It was their uniforms at first. Then I learned what a top program it is. Then in the 1997 National Championship year, I really got hooked. Charles Woodson became by favorite player." He has a 3.4 GPA. As a junior he made 66 tackles, nine tackles for loss, eight pass break-ups, and 11 sacks playing mostly linebacker.
