Thompson Basks in UM Atmosphere

When Toledo Central Catholic safety Jayme Thompson made it up to his first Michigan game of the fall a few weeks back, he found the experience both exciting and memorable. However, because it was a gameday visit he didn't have the opportunity to get a real feel for the program or its coaches. He got that chance yesterday and came away extremely impressed.

“This time we really got a chance to kind of see what everything is really about there, and just the stuff they have in place there for their student athletes is incredible,” said Thompson’s father Deon.  “I’ll tell you what, it was fantastic! Definitely a top notch university from an academic standpoint, from a technology standpoint, and in terms of all of the support they have in place to help kids out. It seems to me that it would be difficult for a person not to do well there with the support systems that they have.”

The Thompsons are intent on making it to as many campuses as possible before arriving at a decision.  They’ve already visited a handful in addition to Michigan and have come away with favorable impressions of all of them.  That said, their time in Ann Arbor left an indelible mark.

“It’s definitely up there,” Mr. Thompson said regarding Michigan.  “We’ve been to Wisconsin, we’ve been to Michigan State, and we’ve been to West Virginia, but in terms of what (the Wolverines) have… it’s real nice.  I really liked it.  The facilities were really really nice.  So was the atmosphere itself.   We got the opportunity to watch practice today.  The coaches it just seemed like they love what they do.  The enthusiasm has clearly carried over to the kids.  I just really enjoyed it.”

After practice the coaching staff shared some one-on-one time with the Glass City star.  Because there is no offer currently on the table, the Thompsons used that time better to better gauge the Wolverines’ interest.

“They actually like us at corner,” Mr. Thompson stated.  “I asked the question, ‘How does he fit in?’  Two kids are committed already from the class of 2013.  They said, ‘Hey, if we didn’t like him a lot, quite honestly we wouldn’t have asked him to come up today. “

“We liked it a lot,” he continued.  “He won’t make a decision until like the 1st of the year in terms of what he is going to do, but I know he really likes it at Michigan.”
