'13 S McWilson Talks Recruiting, U-M Visit

The 2013 Ohio safety is starting to feel his recruitment heat up, and he caught up with GoBlueWolverine to talk his junior season, recruiting and his visit to Ann Arbor for "The Game."

Marcus McWilson (6-1/195) is an important cog in the Youngstown (OH) Cardinal Mooney machine.

"I feel like I play pretty well," McWilson told GoBlueWolverine. "I go out and play my best every time and it's for my teammates and I don't want to let them down."

That play has helped McWilson and his Mooney team reach the Ohio State Championships for an 11th time, including his interception return for a touchdown that helped defeat Chagrin Falls.

"I thought I did pretty well. No regrets. I'm happy with our season. I'm happy about it. I think I had seven or eight interceptions and I got a pick six last week. I was happy about that. Touchdowns wise, I've had I think about eight. I'm not sure how many yards rushing or passing wise, because I play a few different positions. I think our record is 12-3."

Due to the play of his junior season, McWilson is seeing a rise in his recruiting, though he doesn't hold any Division-I offers at this point in time.

"I've been talking to a lot of people. I did get an official offer from Youngstown State. Ohio State was talking about offering me, Michigan State sort of did, I was talking to the coach and there's a thing with Nebraska where I'm talking to them as well."

McWilson was one of the many visitors on the Wolverine's sideline this weekend, as the Maize and Blue took down their hated rival for the first time in seven years.

"It was an excellent visit and Big Ten game. Both teams played really well I think. A few mistakes, but then again, everyone makes mistakes and they went out there and left everything on the field so it was a good game. Michigan came out on top, and I can say I'm happy about that cause I was going to support them and everything because I came as a Michigan recruit, so good game for them and props to Ohio State."

Michigan has been aware of McWilson for quite some time, and have been recruiting him as such.

"I've talked to them a lot this year and I've gotten letters and stuff this year and I got them last year and one of the coaches came down to Mooney to talk to me and he seemed like a good guy. It's a good school. They were talking about getting me down there and getting me to camps and everything and out to games so I could be wearing that Blue in a few years."

Michigan's sterling academic reputation may go a long way in helping the Wolverine's cause for McWilson, should they choose to extend an offer.

"Michigan is definitely one of the schools I would consider. I'm glad I was able to see that game. Ohio State is another school I'd like too. I look at the graduation rates and stuff and I want to be an engineer so it's a good school. As long as the graduation rate is good, and I know Michigan's is pretty well."

Until that time, McWilson will be focused on trying to win his high school team a state title and working hard in every area during the offseason.

"After state, I'll be hitting the books and the weight room every day and stay conditioned. Work hard over the offseason and take a few more visits and see where I can get too, because I'm not playing basketball this year, so just take things one day at a time and see where things go from there."
