Pomona Players Get Offers

We talked via "Instant Message" late this afternoon to John Brown, assistant coach at Pomona, Calif., High School.

We asked Coach Brown about his players LB Eugene Germany (Sept. 13 U-M visit, USC Nike stats: 6-3 1/2, 248 lbs…. 4.65 in the 40, 2.3 GPA) and Keston Cheathem (6-2, 185 lbs., 4.55 in the 40, 3.0 GPA, June 7th SAT).

Coach Brown, this is Tom Beaver of GoBlueWolverine. My cohort Don Hoekwater was by your school to watch a spring practice this week.

Coach Brown: Hey! What's up?

Did Eugene and Keston get a scholarship offer from Michigan?

Coach Brown: Yes. They called Coach Carr who talked to both of them and offered a scholarship to both.

Did they commit?

Coach Brown: No, they didn't commit, but both players do have Michigan as their #1 school.

What about a Michigan visit?

Coach Brown: They set up an official visit to Michigan for the 18th and 19th of October. [Note: Germany's previous visit date of Sept. 5 had to be changed because Pomona has a scrimmage that day.]

What kind of player is Keston? We know little about him. What are his real stats: size, weight, etc.?

Coach Brown: He's 6-2, 185 lbs. with a 4.55 sec. 40. With a strength and conditioning coach he'll run a 4.5 easily. I'll get his stats from last season for you at school next week.

Is he a safety or a corner?

Coach Brown: Keston will start out in college as a corner, but I think he's going to put on too much weight as he grows up to stay at corner. Then he'll probably be moved to safety.

Note: Don will have pictures of Germany and Cheathem next week.
