USAAB: Gene's Practice Diary (Part 1)

GoBlueWolverine's Eugene Hankerson shares his initial impressions on the practice performances turned in by Michigan commits Ondre Pipkins, Royce Jenkins-Stone, and target Yuri Wright.

GoBlueWolverine headed over to the West morning practice session on day one to checkout James Ross, Royce Jenkins-Stone, and Ondre Pipkins.  Unfortunately, the West squad went through a pretty light workout so there wasn’t much to evaluate.

That said, Ondre Pipkins really stood out from what I saw.  He moved very well for a guy his size and showed good technique and footwork in the bag drills.   I’ll be watching Ross and Jenkins – Stone more closely on Tuesday.

In the afternoon we made a quick drive down the road to watch the East practice session where things were quite physical.  Future Wolverine and five-star offensive lineman Kyle Kalis really impressed.  His physicality and motor was too much for guys like Jarron Jones, and Darius Hamilton to handle.  Kalis won the majority of his 1 on 1’s despite playing all across the line at the guard and tackle positions.

Michigan cornerback target Yuri Wright had a decent day.  The four-star cornerback struggled early with coverage’s and technique, but got better as the day went on.  He got beat off the line a couple times, but hustled to get into position to make a play on the ball.
