Diamond Gets Final Questions on UM Answered

Chicago (IL) Simeon, OT Jordan Diamond had been to Michigan's campus so many times, the possibility of him having a unique experience last weekend during his official visit didn't seem very likely. However, thanks in large part to the efforts of a few current Wolverines he had an experience that stood apart from the rest.

Jordan Diamond Profile

“Everything was cool,” said Diamond regarding his time in Ann Arbor.  “It was exactly what I wanted to see.  I got with the coaching staff, met some of the players and hung out. I just had fun. Hanging out with the guys, watching them have fun, and having fun with them was the main thing (that was different this time). Taking in the surroundings of the place… finding out it was a comfortable environment... that’s what I really wanted to know.”

In addition to his host and former teammate, Chris Bryant, Diamond spent a great deal of time with current Wolverines Will Campbell and Antonio Poole. The trio wasn’t at all bashful about advising the five-star lineman about where he should spend his collegiate future.

“They were on me about coming to Michigan,” Daimaond said laughingly.  “They really want me at Michigan.  Like I said, I really had fun with those guys.  One thing I know is when they say it’s all about the team, it really is.  It’s all about the team at Michigan.”

If at some point Diamond questioned how he might fit in on said team, he doesn’t anymore.  The coaching staff laid out for him what his potential role would be, but as is the case with every prospect – made him no promises about what it definitely will be.

“They said I’m still a tackle, but wherever they want me at (along the offensive line) I’ll do,” he stated.  "I can play both tackles.  Yeah, they’ve recruited a lot of linemen, but I’m a competitior and I’m willing to try to beat anybody out because that’s how it’s going to be wherever I go.”

One of the biggest factors in Diamond’s comfort level with the Maize & Blue is his connection with his would-be offensive line coach, Darrell Funk.

“Coach Funk is cool,” Diamond stated.  He keeps everything honest and he’s down to earth.  He doesn’t get too intense -- just intense enough to get the job done.  He’s the kind of coach you want to have."

Despite Michigan’s strong showing, Diamond isn’t yet ready to end his recruiting process.  That said, it’s clear the Wolverines have put themselves in great position as he enters the final phase of his process.

“The (Michigan) visit stacks up pretty high,” he said.  “I had a good time on all of my visits, but this one was kind of different.  I don’t want to say it’s at the top because I don’t want to be misconstrued… but it was pretty high.”

“I’m headed to Arkansas next and then Wisconsin that following week.  (Shortly) after that I’ll announce my decision at my school.”
