Michigan's offer a big deal to Shane Jones

Cincinnati Moeller's 2013 linebacker Shane Jones has started to see the football offers come in. He talks about his Michigan offer, when he will visit Ann Arbor, as well as the type of linebacker he is.

Shane Jones received his first offer from Cincinnati in December 2011. Then after signing day things begin to pick up.

"Michigan was my second offer, and then things got crazy Illinois, Indiana. And I received interest from more schools. So things have really picked up with schools interest in me."

The offer Michigan presented was really important for Jones, and he was very happy to explain to GoBlueWolverine exactly why.

"The Michigan offer was a big deal -- it is a place with so much background and tradition. When the Michigan offer came in my first thought was I have to get up there to see them. I am looking at going up to visit Michigan around March 10."

The Michigan coaching staff told Jones why they like what he does and the reason they choose to offer him.

"Coach Smith the Linebacker coach at Michigan told me that the Defensive line coach (Jerry Montgomery) and the Defensive backs coach (Curt Mallory) have both seen my tape. He told me they like that I am a pretty complete player -- I can hit, cover and run."

Shane had a chance to watch Michigan last season to see if the Wolverines were back to playing tough defense, and he was pleased that they were.

"I watched the Notre Dame game with those cool jerseys, and a few Big Ten games, and Michigan's defense was fast physical and not afraid to come up and hit. All three units D-line, linebackers and D-backs, were bringing it. The crowd was ridiculous to play in front of -- 110,000 thousand is just crazy. I like Michigan and how successful they are."

The young man from Moeller feels he fits what Michigan does because of the type of linebacker he looks up to and plays like.

"Lamaar Woodley is one of my favorite players -- he is big, physical and flat out gets after it. That is how I play when I step out on the field."

For right now Shane has a few items on his list that he is looking for that schools must have for him to have any interest in them.

"Academics are first because that is very important to me. Then I would like at the type of family atmosphere that they have at the school. I also would like to see how I get along with my future teammates. I want to fit in the system that the school has. I just want the best fit for me and my family."

Don't look for a decision anytime soon -- he is trying to take his time and listen to his mom.

"I am looking to commit around December or January. My mom wants me to stay positive about the whole process and to take my time with this decision."
