Best Guess Rec. Class List: QBs, RBs, WRs

Here is the June 15 eve-of-camp update of our "Best Guess Michigan Recruiting Class:" the QB's, RB's and WR's.

June 15, 2003

Quarterbacks

It is assumed that U-M would like two quarterbacks in this class. A lot of effort is going to landing Chad Henne (who is making a summer decision), and there are lots of potential targets for a second, many of whom are camping at U-M.

- Chad Henne (6-3, 230 lbs., 4.6 in the 40, 3.4 GPA) from West Lawn, Pa., Wilson. He will visit U-M the June 20 weekend, and still plans to make a summer decision. On May 13 Lloyd Carr spoke at the nearby Manheim Touchdown Club Banquet. Henne attended the PSU Nike Camp (but did not get measured), where he told us his top three are: "Michigan, Tennessee, and Penn State." Miami can be added to the list now as well; in fact PSU and Miami are considered the main competition. He worked out with the Miami QB coach at an early June camp in NY. He has a Michigan OFFER. Henne is Tom Lemming's #3 quarterback, and MaxEmfingerRecruiting.com's #6 dropback quarterback.

Running Backs

Michigan may be looking for two, or even possibly three, running backs, and U-M now has quite a few strong possibilities – thanks to the Deep South.

- Michigan Commitment #2: Max Martin (Planned 2003 U-M Camper, 6-2, 210 lbs., 4.5 in the 40, 305-lb. bench press, 2.5 GPA/24 ACT/1070 SAT) from Madison, Ala., Bob Jones (in the Huntsville area). I talked to Coach Carr right away, and committed on the spot!" He is U-M's top ‘big back' recruit. In eight games as a junior, Martin rushed for 1,069 yards (7.7 yards per carry); he also caught five passes for 133 yards and four more touchdowns; on defense was an outside linebacker in five games, making 53 tackles and two sacks.
