ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team will face Notre Dame in a night game for the second consecutive season. Notre Dame and NBC Sports announced Thursday (March 15) the Wolverines and Fighting Irish will play at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sept. 22 in Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind.
It marks the first night game in Notre Dame Stadium between the two schools
since 1990, when the top-ranked Fighting Irish defeated the fourth-ranked
Wolverines, 28-24. U-M defeated Notre Dame, 35-31, in the Wolverines' first-ever
night game at Michigan Stadium in 2011. Trailing, 24-7, entering the fourth
quarter, Michigan scored four fourth-quarter touchdowns, including two in the
final 1:12, for the comeback victory.
Michigan has won three consecutive matchups against Notre Dame, with each
victory coming in the game's final minute. The Wolverines hold a 23-15-1 overall
It marks the first kickoff time for the 2012 schedule. The Wolverines will open
the 2012 slate against defending BCS National Champion Alabama on Sept. 1 at
Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. U-M then will host Air Force on Sept. 8 and
Massachusetts on Sept. 15 before traveling to South Bend. Michigan will have an
open date on Sept. 29 before opening the Big Ten schedule at Purdue on Oct. 6.
The Wolverines will hold the first of 14 spring practices on Saturday, March 17.
U-M will host its annual Spring Scrimmage at noon ET on April 14 at Michigan
