Two weeks ago I talked to top offensive lineman Jeff Byers (6-4, 272 lbs., 4.8 in the 40, 385-lb. bench press, 30-inch vertical jump, 4.0 GPA) from Fort Collins, Col., Loveland. At that time he told us, "On June 26th I'm visiting Notre Dame, on the 27th Michigan, and on the 28th Ohio State. That will be my last trip. I've already visited Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Colorado, Colorado State (his home-town school), and Stanford."
This (Friday) afternoon Mrs. Byers told me, "Let's see, what time is it? He's there right now -- he's meeting with Michigan right now! Are they (Jeff and his father) visiting Notre Dame and Ohio State too? Yes. They visited Notre Dame yesterday. They will stay with Jeff's sister and family in Ann Arbor tonight, and then go on to Ohio State tomorrow. By the way, I have family in Michigan too -- my sister lives in Frankenmuth."
Byers is generally considered one of the top ten high school offensive linemen in the country.
"He's there right now."
