Michigan received some welcomed news yesterday when Harper Woods (MI) Chandler Park Academy WR, Csont'e York became commitment #18 to its 2013 class. The addition further fortifies a position of great need for the Maize & Blue, but Brady Hoke & company still haven’t met this year’s target number for the class. One of the first prospects they reached out to in order to explain where things now stand is Crete (IL) Monee pass catcher, Laquon Treadwell.
“They said there’s one spot left and they’re going to wait on me to see what decision I’m going to make,” Treadwell told GoBlueWolverine late Wednesday night. “They’ll hold the spot. I just talked to Coach Montgomery thirty minutes ago.”
That gives Treadwell room to move forward with his plan to take his time to reach a decision and visit a number of schools officially during the fall. As it turns out, however, it’s room that he may not need.
“I think a decision is going to come faster now,” he said. “I’m anxious to make a decision. I’ve been going through it for the longest. It’s probably going to happen sooner, like once football gets kicked off I’ll see where things are going and everything.”
Michigan has been in strong standing in the four-star pass-catcher’s recruitment since it began. As a matter of fact he was one the Wolverines’ earliest commitment candidates before he decided to slow his process down in order to more seriously consider all of his options. From there other heavy hitters like USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, and Auburn all entered the fray with scholarship offers. One of the keys to Michigan’s ability to hold serve has been Treadwell’s relationship Montgomery.
“He’s real cool,” Treadwell said of regarding his Michigan recruiter. “We can talk about anything. He doesn’t really pressure me or nothing. He’s a lot like my high school coach. I’m comfortable with him, just hanging around and talk about everything.”
The Illinois star has established an equally good rapport with many of Michigan’s 2013 commitments. One of his strongest connections is with future Wolverine signal caller, Shane Morris. Future recruiting coordinator could just as easily be one of Morris’ titles. He has leant his voice to numerous recruiting efforts, including Treadwell’s. When asked if Morris made a habit of putting in a good word for his future team, Treadwell could hardly contain his laughter.
“What!?” he exclaimed laughingly. “Yeah, Shane does, Logan, Khalid…, I think it’s like four or five of them I talk to every day.”
Treadwell hopes to meet face to face with many of the aforementioned future Wolverines face to face very soon. He plans to make his way back up to the Great Lake State for another visit, but this trip will serve a different purpose than any of the ones prior.
“I’m coming back (to Michigan) probably this weekend or next weekend just to hang out basically,” Treadwell stated. “I haven’t really told the coaches I was coming up. I’ve just been talking to Shane and all those guys (about coming up) and just trying to get up to hang with them. Khalid’s talking about playing basketball with some of the other recruits… just getting used to hanging around them and everything.”
