Washington DC's Doug Dutch has been burning up the track and collegiate football camps this summer. The Gonzaga HS star has opened a lot of eyes with his impressive speed numbers. Michigan has been in contact with Doug and he was courteous enough to let us know where things now stand.
Have you heard from Michigan lately?
"I spoke briefly with Coach Campbell a few weeks ago. I didn't get to talk to him that long because he was working the camp. He was basically just checking on how I was doing."
Your dad told me that you received a written offer from Michigan. When did it come?
"Michigan offered me, but I haven't received in written form yet."
Have you spoken with Coach Carr yet?
"No, I haven't spoken with the head coach."
What position is Michigan talking to you about?
"They want me to play receiver. Coach Campbell is the one recruiting me and he's the receivers coach, so it's a great situation."
Do you have the same top 5?
"Yes. Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, and North Carolina."
Do you have a favorite?
"No, I can't say that I do. I like all 5 schools right now."
Your dad said that you were pretty successful at UVA's camp? What was your 40 time?
"I went down there last week and ran a 4.21. My fastest 100m time is 10.5."
What about your height and weight?
"I was 6' 190 lbs."
What will be the most significant factors in your decision?
"The player/coach relationship is very important to me. How comfortable I am with the coaches will be a key."
Will distance be a factor?
"No, it won't."
Have you ever been to Michigan before?
"No, but I've already set an official visit to Michigan in December and I'm really looking forward to it."
So your decision will come around signing day?
"Yeah, probably so."
We'll be keeping tabs on Mr. Dutch's recruitment.
