A four-star prospect and 2013 Michigan basketball commit, Walton used the opportunity to play with his high school team for a change, in the heart of AAU basketball season.
"I have been playing good," Walton told GoBlueWolverine.com. "Just getting used to playing with my guys on my school team. Just getting ready for this upcoming year."
Walton said he has focused on weightlifting, conditioning, and "a lot" of shots this off-season to advance his game. But he also said he is trying to be a more vocal leader going into his senior season at Chandler Park.
Michigan recently offered Moss Pointe (MS) junior guard Derek Booker, and Walton has put on his recruiting hat to try to lure in the Mississippi stand out.
"I met him at a basketball game," Walton said. "You know, word around was he was really good. And there was a possibility he would get an offer on June 15. So I just wanted to reach out to him and show him we were interested in him, and we would love to have him in Ann Arbor.
"Yeah just creating chemistry in case he gets there. You know it is good to get to know each other. (When) we're playing out there it becomes easy."
Walton also said he talks with fellow 2013 commit Zak Irvin on a regular basis. And he has reached out to fellow commits Mark Donnal and Austin Hatch as well. He said his next planned visit to Ann Arbor is on June 29.
As far as his talks with Michigan coach John Beilien—they're still the same.
"Just the same thing, be ready to contribute heavily as a freshman. And just be the number one recruiter now."
