Bedford, OH DE Jason Chapman

Bedford, Ohio High School defensive end Jason Chapman reports a slew of offers from schools all over the country. Will leaving Ohio be a difficult decision for this talented player?

I asked Jason Chapman (6-4, 240 lbs., no reported 40 time, June 14 SAT) what kind of pressure he was receiving to stay in Ohio. He said, "There is a lot of pressure, everyone says I should go to Ohio State because they won the title last year, but you don't do what everyone else wants you to do. I don't have any problem leaving Ohio. My parents will support me no matter where I go, and that's the most important thing to me."

Chapman reports offers from Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Boston College, Cincinnati, Kent State, Bowling Green, and Georgia Tech. He also says he is getting some serious looks from Michigan State, Ohio State, Florida, Nebraska, and South Carolina.

I wanted to know if he'd received an offer from Michigan. "I was up at Michigan for one day during their camp, it was the first time I'd ever been on campus. I had a good time and was got a chance to walk around the stadium with Shawn Crable and Pierre Woods, I know them from home. We talked about a lot of stuff and I had a real good time. I talked to Coach (Scot) Loeffler and he said they really liked me as a person and said I was an all-around good player. We went into Coach (Lloyd) Carr's office and talked a lot but they didn't give me an offer."

It's been reported that the staff is waiting on Chapman's test scores before they decide whether or not to extend an offer.

"I don't really have a favorite right now, I went to the Michgian camp on an unofficial visit (he had a minor knee injury so he didn't work out) and they want me to come back for the Open House, I think it's on July 27th so I'm going to do that. I don't have any other visits or camps planned. I'll probably take all my visits during the season and make my decision sometime after."

When asked which schools stood out for him, he responded, "Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State, and Wisconsin. I'm looking for a good education first and then a good program with a strong tradition. Playing time is also very important to me so I'll be looking at a school's depth chart."
