Amid all of the impressive performances being turned in at The Opening is a palpable recruiting buzz about the leanings of many of the top uncommitted prospects in attendance. Crete (IL) Monee star Laquon Treadwell is on the verge of choosing his collegiate destination, while Seffner (FL) Armwood star Alvin Bailey is preparing to pare down his list. Then there are those like four-star safety, Leon McQuay for whom recruiting is still moving along for at a deliberate pace.
While it’s probable each of those suitors would like to host him unofficially prior to the fall, McQuay indicated his availability for such visits is still up in the air. For Michigan that means there is a strong possibility he will not be in attendance at the annual Barbecue at the Big House on July 29th. While in Oregon, a number of Michigan commitments are doing their best to compensate for that potential missed opportunity by espousing the virtues of the Maize & Blue at every turn.
“Mike McCray is on my team, then there’s Shane, a d-lineman from Michigan (Taco Charlton), and an o-lineman from Michigan,” McQuay stated. “They’ve been saying come on and go to Michigan. I’ve been (getting to know) them from all the camps we go to. They’re cool.”
Even so, McQuay reiterated that the attention, while flattering, has little chance of convincing him to speed up his timetable. His planned decision date has not changed.
“It’s November 21st,” he said.
