UM Made Nicholson Feel Like Family

Monroeville (PA) Gateway 2014 DB Montae Nicholson chats with GoBlueWolverine about his Barbecue at the Big House experience, his favorites, and gives the latest on his decision timeline.

When Montae Nicholson was last on Michigan’s campus he put on a ball-hawking exhibition during the Wolverines’ annual summer camp that eventually earned him a scholarship offer.  As exciting as that experience was, there wasn’t a great deal of time do much other than play football.  When he returned to Ann Arbor Sunday for the Barbecue at the Big House, he had a chance to see much more of the Maize & Blue.

“It went very well,” said Nicholson.  “I talked with more of the coaches… Coach Hecklinski, Coach Mattison, I talked to Coach Hoke more and Coach Mallory.  I also got a more in-depth tour.  We took a tour of the academic center and we got a feel for what I would be doing if I went there as far as my schedule and things like that.  I met some more of the recruits.  I talked to a little bit of everybody.  I met some of the commits and they were really cool.”

While there were clearly many memorable aspects of his latest trip to the Great Lake State, one stood out above all the rest.

“The coaching staff,” Nicholson said matter-of-factly.  “They’re just an excellent coaching staff.  They make you feel like family.  It’s a wonderful feeling.  They said they wanted me there, but their focus wasn’t really football.  It was just a social type of thing just to get to know each other more.  It was more of a meet and greet.  I really liked that.”

The Wolverines were already on firm footing with the Gateway star well before the visit and that sentiment solidified during this latest interaction.  That said, Nicholson insists he is a long way away from naming a leader among a seven school offer sheet that also includes Penn State, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia.

“Michigan is high, but each of the other schools is high as well,” Nicholson stated.  “I still have a lot to go, but I still have some more looking to do.  I’ve got to do some more research about every school.  It’s still early.”

“I’m going to wait until my senior season to make a decision… either right before or in the first few weeks.”
