Jack Miller: "I think for an offensive lineman the main improvements when you get to college have to be in the weight room. You just physically have to be so much bigger and stronger and more explosive and things like that. That was my point of emphasis this off-season. (It) was doing the best I could in the weight room, to put on some extra weight to get stronger and things like that. The first week in camp here I could notice a little bit of difference. I am happy about that."
GBW: What are you coming in at right now?
Jack Miller: "Like 290, I weigh around 290."
GBW: What positions do they have you working out at? Is it center mostly?
Jack Miller: "Yeah it is just center right now."
GBW: Is that the main focus down the line? Are you just going to be focusing on center?
Jack Miller: "Yeah, that is the way it looks. I am not going to make any promises; something can happen tomorrow. But at the way it looks right now it's at center. That is what my main focus is on."
GBW: How has the competition been at Center? Obviously Rick Barnum is the front-runner, how is the competition been so far in camp?
Jack Miller: "Ricky is the guy. Ricky is starting right now. My main thing is, if I can do the best that I can everyday no matter what reps it is, if it is with the one's or two's or whatever. If I just do my part. Then no matter what happens, start, play, (or) doesn't play at all. I can't be disappointed, ‘cause I did all that I could and I can't be disappointed in myself for that. Every day we come out here and compete from a position standpoint, just everyone trying to be the best that they can be. Even little things like me and Taylor Lewan trying to see who is faster down to the line or something like that. There is always competing going on around here. Things are good though. Camp is going well and we are just trying to get ready."
GBW: How is the offensive line a whole? Are you guys gelling together this fall camp?
Jack Miller: "Yeah absolutely, we have a really good chemistry going up front with the O-line. When you spend this much time together it's like you're brothers. Really it is. I think we got 17 guys in our room total. I'm buddies with every single one of them. And every single one is buddies with everybody else. I think that is important the chemistry that we have together and things like that. We are doing a really good job of that so far."
GBW: Going up against the defensive guys in practice. What have you seen from the defensive front so far?
Jack Miller: "Big Will Campbell is pretty good. Big Will is doing a great job. Not to single him out, the entire defensive line is doing a great job. Obviously coach (Mattison) always got them prepared for some blitz we've got to take a second look at or whatever. The defense is doing well and they deserve a lot credit for things they did last year. I'm confident they will give they will help this team just as much this year."
GBW: At the end of the season, if we're going to make a statement about this season, what would that statement be?
Jack Miller: "That's tough. There are so many variables that go into it and so much can happen. But I'm confident with the leadership of this team and the talent that we got on this team, the chemistry that we're working with, as hard as we worked this off-season and (the way we) are working in camp. That things are going to go well. And where that takes us and what ends up happening? I don't know. So it would tough to give you a final statement on the year. I believe good things come when you work hard and you give it your all. And I think we are doing that."
