Actually, Josh Winchell (Aub. Nike stats: 6-3 1/2, 290 lbs. … 5.0 in the 40, 365 lb. bench press, 2.5 GPA) is a very likeable guy and a real gentleman. Here's the latest from him regarding his Michigan recruitment.
"I'm getting a lot of stuff in the mail from Michigan. Coach Jackson was at my school in May. And then he called me and offered me a scholarship from Michigan. He said they liked my footwork -- he said I've got as good or better footwork of any lineman that he has seen on film this spring -- and they like my strength and speed. I'm a guard and he said they see me playing guard. I didn't commit though. I told them it's too early."
Who else has offered you now?
"When I talked to you before I had offers from Mississippi State and Arkansas. Now I have offers from Michigan, Auburn and Alabama too."
Do you have a list of favorites?
"No sir, not really. I don't have a top 5 yet. I haven't taken any visits to any schools. I definitely plan to visit Michigan though."
Have you been to any camps since the Auburn Nike Camp?
"No sir, I haven't gone to any camps yet. I'm going to the Mississippi State camp this weekend."
What has attracted you to Michigan? Do you have any family in the North or anything?
"No sir. I've just always watched them on TV whenever I could. I've liked Michigan because they win a lot."
When does practice start for Southaven?
"We start practice in a couple weeks, around the first of August."
Note: I've assumed Michigan would like to sign 4-5 offensive linemen this year. With Alex Mitchell and Jeremy Ciulla being tackles and Grant DeBenedictis likely a guard/center, another top guard would be just 'what the doctor ordered'.
