Oak Park (MI) sophomore defensive back John Kelly was named MVP for his position group at Saturday's Detroit Maximum Exposure combine held at the Pontiac Silverdome.

"Today I feel I had a good performance," Kelly told GoBlueWolverine. "I really think it was some good competition out here. It was a lot of people who thought they would be able to compete with me. But I just tried to stay above everyone and play my game."

"I love playing against good competition. It just feels like it is preparing me for the next that's best. I just want to make sure I keep improving in my game."

Last month, Kelly was on hand for Michigan's thrilling 38-31 overtime victory over Northwestern and came away extremely impressed with the Maize & Blue.

"It was a good experience at the game," Kelly recalled. "The coaches just told me to stay on my grades. And they like me and they are recruiting me hard. I'm just going to go from what they told me. I really like the school though."

But what really stood out on his visit to Ann Arbor was the atmosphere at Michigan Stadium.

Said Kelly, "The fans, I like the experience there. I really felt welcomed when I went there."

Currently the c/o 2015 standout has no offers. That first one will resonate pretty loudly… especially if it were to come from Ann Arbor.

"That would mean a lot," Kelly exclaimed. "That would be my first offer. That be great. That would really be great. If it came, I really wouldn't know what I would do."

Ohio State, Michigan State, Arizona, and Indiana are other programs showing Kelly interest right now.

"The defensive back coach from Ohio State just came into our school and he talked to me for a minute. And I plan on going to Michigan State because I just talked to their running back coach last week as well. I plan on going up there for bowl practices."

When Kelly finally makes his college decision there will be a few important traits he is looking for in a program.
