Looking at the matchups and thinking about the pace No. 3 Indiana plays with, especially at home at Assembly Hall, the man in charge of the Wolverines might be tacking on a few more years and gray hairs thanks to this game alone.
"Their last five games, they haven't dropped off at all from their prior 15," said Coach Beilein. "They are playing at a high level. You like our numbers. Their numbers are better than our numbers."
Five Hoosiers average double figure points, including sixth man Will Sheehey, who provides energy, hustle and outside shooting off the bench.
Look deeper into the numbers and it's easy to see why Indiana is enjoying the success they are at 19-2 overall, 7-1 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are knocking down field goals at a 50 percent clip for the year while opponents are shooting just 37 percent from the field. Not to mention that, as a team, Indiana comes in averaging 84 points per game.
Coming into the season the focus lay on the shoulders of sophomore center Cody Zeller, deemed to already be a top five pick in the 2013 NBA draft. But as of late, the energizer bunny triggering the Hoosiers is junior guard Victor Oladipo who's causing headaches for the opposition trying to defend them.
"Cody's one thing, it's the surrounding cast that helps you make decisions on how you're going to play him," said Beilein. "It's not like you throw it in there and he's got a bunch of stiffs running around him. He's got a great team around him. So how much attention you pay to him, how you front him -- what you do all has a lot to do with their game plan and has a lot to do with the supporting cast and how people are playing."
Beilein wouldn't definitively say junior center Jordan Morgan would be out for Saturday night's primetime matchup with Indiana. Actually, Beilein left the option of Morgan playing sparingly off the bench open for discussion. Regardless, Jon Horford and Mitch McGary will have to step up for the Wolverines, as they probably will be forced to play in one on one scenarios.
