Montgomery Departing for Oklahoma

After two years as the defensive line coach at Michigan, Jerry Montgomery is moving on. The 32-year old former Iowa standout is heading to Oklahoma to work for another former Hawkeye, Oklahoma's Bob Stoops.

Sources have confirmed to GoBlueWolverine that Jerry Montgomery accepted the vacant defensive line coaching post at Oklahoma on Friday.  A formal announcement is expected to come Monday.

Contract details weren’t available at press time, but sources indicate that Michigan offered a competitive compensation package to Montgomery, but ultimately he felt the opportunity at Oklahoma was one he couldn’t pass up.

Next for Michigan is to hire a replacement.  Since the Wolverines are flush with defensive line coaches… (headman Brady Hoke and defensive coordinator Greg Mattison are both defensive coaches by trade)... the new hire doesn’t necessarily have to be an expert on trench play. If Mattison were to shift from coaching outside linebackers to tutoring the defensive line, the net of replacements could widen to also include linebacker coaches.

Stay tuned to GoBlueWolverine for word on the assistant coaching search in the coming days.
