Dwight Williams has recently shown at the Los Angeles Nike football training camp just how good his skill set is. He has been the LB M.V.P. the last two seasons at the Nike camp, solidifying his status as the top LB prospect on the west coast.
Those performances the last two years have created attention from colleges
all over the country, and that has led to scholarship offers for his services.
Dwight received an offer not too long ago that left him stunned that it came his
"Coach Ferrigno (from Michigan) had visited my school, and then I called him to talk -- and the next
thing I know he offered me a scholarship. Man I was amazed by that because they
were one of my first offers. The first thought about Michigan was great tradition
and a great place. I have been doing research on them and watching videos -- I am
just happy Michigan offered me."
Williams had a chance to talk with the man who will run the defense, and he gave
Dwight a little insight as to what he has seen on tape.
"I spoke with Greg Mattison (defensive coordinator), and he talked about how
really quick I am. He was really fired up, he told me after seeing my tape,
and he likes how I would fit in on defense. Michigan is one of the schools that
is recruiting me the hardest."
With Michigan being one of his strongest suitors it is certainly not surprising
other colleges are coming at Dwight as well.
"First of all it is a blessing that I have scholarship offers, and I really
appreciate that. The schools that are coming at me the hardest are Michigan -- we
talked about them already -- but Clemson, Oklahoma,Georgia and UCLA. At UCLA I am
really getting to know the staff there just by talking with the coaches."
There are no favorites on the horizon at this time in Williams's recruitment but
he has an idea of what he wants in the college that he attends.
The way Dwight Williams plays the linebacker position, and how he feels it should
be played, is another of the growing reasons why there is such a buzz about this
"The linebacker position is a great place to make plays; I love to come downhill
and tackle. Playing linebacker makes you want to just hit somebody. I feel that
I have a great attitude, I am a leader on the field, which along with my speed and
instincts helps me do well at linebacker."
When the time comes to make a decision on what college to choose for the next
four years, Dwight has thought long and hard of what he expects from a school.
"I want to have the opportunity to receive a great education; I would like to be
around an environment that supports me on and off the field.I would like to play
early and have a coaching staff that I have a close relationship with. Distance
doesn't matter -- you have to go where the best fit is because in the end it will be
