Michigan to play Stanford at Barclays Center

For the second year in a row Michigan will make the trip to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, this time to compete in the second annual BROOKLYN HOOPS Holiday Invitational presented by adidas men's college basketball triple-header against the Stanford Cardinal.

The bright lights of New York appear to be to the Michigan basketball teams’ liking, as the Wolverines will head to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the second straight season.

Michigan is set to participate in the second annual BROOKLYN HOOPS Holiday Invitational men’s college basketball triple-header, presented by adidas, on Saturday, December 21, according to a release from the Barclays Center.

Michigan will represent the Big Ten against the Pac-12’s, Stanford Cardinal, along with match-ups between LIU Brooklyn/Temple, and Manhattan/Buffalo.

Michigan’s march to the national title game in 2013, along with their significant alumni base on the east coast, makes the Wolverines a very attractive option for the brand new venue.

“After Michigan’s dramatic NCAA Tournament run, we are excited to welcome the Wolverines back to Barclays Center for the second consecutive season,” said Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark. “Our inaugural college basketball campaign was embraced by the borough and we expect to deliver an even more exciting array of match-ups this coming year.

“In just one season, Barclays Center has become a must-play for top college hoops teams as we strive to develop into the center of college basketball on the East Coast.”

Michigan beat West Virginia, 81-66, in the Brooklyn Winter Hoops Festival held at the Barclays center in December of 2012.

Stanford finished the 2012-13 season at 19-15 overall, including a mark of 2-3 in neutral court contests. The Cardinal didn’t qualify for the NCAA tournament, instead competing in the postseason national invitational tournament, defeating Stephen F. Austin in the first round before bowing out to Alabama in the second round.
