One of, possibly even the tallest prospect in attendance at Sound Mind Sound Body this past weekend at Southfield (Mich.) high, 2015 Clarkston (Mich.) tight end Cole Chewins was receiving plenty of attention including some 1-on-1 instruction and interaction with college football coaches from all over the Midwest.
“I think it’s a great experience,” Chewins told GoBlueWolverine. “Having, I don’t even know how many coaches here, but having them here, watching you, helping you through every step and getting evaluated, it’s definitely a huge part in the recruiting process.
“I felt I did well. I had good routes and worked on my hand work and footwork a lot and that helped with separation.”
Standing 6-foot-7, 200-pounds, Chewins continues to work tirelessly on his quickness and precision with route running.
Having the opportunity to work closely with Michigan wide receiver coach Jeff Hecklinski at Sound Mind Sound Body, as well as making it to the top group of the Wolverine’s camp on Monday, Chewins was evaluated by the entire coaching staff, getting instruction and applying it in 1-on-1’s.
“He said that I need to keep staying physical and keep my hands moving at all times,” said Chewins. “That’s going to help with everything.
“And then getting your head around as fast as you can because you never know, all of these different quarterbacks here have a different velocity on the ball -- just got to be ready for everything.”
Chewins also spent time talking with coaches from Indiana, Illinois, and Minnesota, all of which showed interest in beginning the recruiting process with him. Chewins also made his way up to East Lansing to compete in the Michigan State football camp this week.
Between football camps, summer league basketball, and 7-on-7’s with his Clarkston Wolves team, Chewins is already having a very busy summer.
