Williams is Playing More Aggressive

2015 SG Tyler Williams talks Michigan, a possible visit to Ann Arbor and more.

INDIANAPOLIS -- 2015 shooting guard Tyler Williams is an all-around player on the court. He can shoot, dribble-drive, pass, rebound and defend. He can do it all.

But sometimes, he needs to be more aggressive in the scoring column, and that's exactly what he tried to do in last week's Adidas Invitational in Indianapolis.

"I have been looking to attack the basket a lot," said Williams, who plays for Urban DFW 17-under squad, based out of Texas. "I'm trying to get the free-throw line. I like to penetrate, find an open teammate or score the ball at the rim.

"I just got to make sure my jump shot stays consistent. I got to get a little stronger and try to add weight. And just making sure I keep everyone on my team involved. That's what I think I am pretty good at and hope to get better at it."

At-6-foot-6, 190-pounds, Williams is heading into his junior season at Hebron (Lewisville, Texas) High and is currently rated a three-star prospect. His recruitment is starting to heat up.

"I think I am being recruited more of two-guard," Williams said. "But I can also can run the point. I consider myself a point-forward almost. I get a lot of rebounds. So, If I ever get a rebound I just get it and go.

Currently, Williams has offers form Texas A&M, Iowa State, Houston and SMU, to name a few. He is also hearing from other noteworthy schools from around the country.

" I have been getting looks form a lot of schools," Williams said. "I getting looked at by pretty much every school in the Big 12. I talk to a lot of coaches on a everyday basis. I talk a lot with Michigan and Michigan State. So I got a little Big Ten in there, too. And a couple ACC schools."

What exactly has the contact been with Michigan? According to Williams, it has been substantial.

"I talk with coach Bacari Alexander on a pretty much every other day basis," Williams said. "I really enjoy talking to him and getting to know their coaching staff. I plan on visiting up there sometime this fall.

"I went here last fall to watch the Michigan versus Michigan State football game. So this year I am just looking to have a good time. I want to get to know the coaching staff a little bit better. I want to see how the practices work and all the good stuff … It excites me. I am glad that they have interest in me. It means a lot that someone can see what I can do."

Williams said he also plans on visiting Michigan State, Iowa State, Creighton and Texas this year.

As far as a decision timeline, Williams said he will make the decision when the time is tight.

"I think it will be more of when the time is right – I will know. But in mind, I would like to commit before my senior year starts. So I can be able to relax my senior year and just have fun."
