Funchess on Mackey Award Watch List

After a standout freshman season Michigan sophomore tight end Devin Funchess is in the hunt for his position's top honor.

Devin Funchess burst onto the scene in Ann Arbor last year, hauling in  15 receptions for 234 yards and five touchdowns. His top performance came in a 31-25 victory over Air Force in week two.  Funchess' four reception, 106-yard, one-touchdown performance earned him Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. He also became the ninth Michigan freshman to register a 100-yard receiving game and the first Michigan tight to go over 100yards since Jerame Tuman in 1997.

At season's end the former Farmington Hills Harrison star was named a freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America.

The John Mackey Award, given to the nation's most outstanding tight end, will narrow to a list of semifinalists on November 18th.  Finalists will be announced on November 25th. The winner will be announced on December 12th on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show.
