The mental pictures of brunette girls have served Michigan senior Brendan Gibbons well. The once embattled place kicker has been going strong since a redemptive sophomore campaign culminated in a game winning field goal in the Sugar Bowl. In that pressure packed moment he mentioned that his method of staying calm was picturing brunettes on the beach.
Now he has effectively morphed into one of the most consistent kickers in Michigan history. Gibbons connected on 16/18 field-goal attempts (88.9 percent), including the final 13, and 45-of-45 point-after attempts in 2012.
Gibbons ranks sixth in Michigan history in made field goals made, and his streak of 97 consecutive successful PATs is second best behind J.D. Carlson's 126 consecutive.
The Lou Groza Award, given to the nation's most outstanding kicker, will release its list of semifinalists on November 4. Three finalists will them be announced on November 25.
The victor will be announced on December 12th on the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show.
