"I am so motivated to get things underway," he told GoBlueWolverine. "My expectations are to get started on my classes so that I can have a big jump on receiving my degree, and having the opportunity to get on the field and just work hard. I want to show my coaches and teammates what I can do, which is make plays for our team."
Freddy Canteen from Eastern Christian Academy -- and now a Michigan Wolverine -- make plays all over the field. Talking with him, the points he drove home time and time again are his effort, and playing fast ALL the time.
"When I am playing or practicing I want to go full speed and not take any plays off at wide receiver," he said. "As I said I am coming in trying to put in work -- period. So I am looking forward to 2014 and the hard work that I want to put in."
Canteen has heard the whispers, and so has the class of 2014, about Michigan being down -- and they are ready to help improve things from last season.
"The class of 2014, we feel like we are here to help get things moving even better. We are here to work and grind it out for Michigan."
One thing that he has not shied away from is advice from former ECA teammates. They have talked to him about taking care of business on and off the field in order to be successful.
"I have talked with Kenny Bigelow (DT-USC), and he talked about the work I have to put in. Kenny said that the spring determines whether or not you get on the field. He also told me how important it was to take care of business in the classroom, and that if I needed help to take advantage of the assistance that they provide for you. Daikiel Shorts (WR-West Virginia) talked about the speed of the game and how so much more physical it is on the collegiate level. Daikiel and I talk about the tricks of the trade, of how to approach DB's. Both Kenny and Daikiel really gave me great advice moving forward for college football."
Both Freddy Canteen and ECA teammate Brandon Watson received a nice little send off by their head coach.
"Coach Dwayne Thomas told us how we have put ourselves in a great position to be successful. Coach talked about how blessed we are and that it is a business, so to make sure we get the work done that is there, to complete."
"Our families are very excited for us right now."
The road to college has started for Freddy Canteen, and it is a journey he appears to be ready for.
