Michigan headman Brady Hoke took a call that he didn't want but probably was expecting a few days ago when the mother of 2015 Berea (KY) Madison Southern RB, Damien Harris phoned to let him know that her son had opted to rescind his commitment.
“The reason he came to this decision is he felt like when he committed, at the time we felt like it was the right decision even though it was early,” Ms. Harris explained. “Now that it's months later and he has been thinking and thinking, ‘I didn't really go and look at other places probably like I should have... I didn't consider other places like I should have.’ Even though Michigan is #1, and that hasn't changed, he just wants to make sure that he doesn't have any regrets when he gets ready to enroll. He just wants to make sure he didn't leave any stone unturned and make sure he didn't miss out on anything... even though he knows Michigan is still his #1. He just making sure that he doesn't regret not taking in the full experience."
When Hoke made the decision to change offensive coordinators a unfortunate byproduct was the loss in the most direct connection to Harris. In the end that did have an impact.
"We love Coach Borges... love Coach Borges," Ms. Harris admitted. "He was the one that recruited Damien, so I'm not going to sit here and say that it didn't have anything to do with it. I'm not going to sit here and say it had everything to do with it."
