Is U-M Back on 4-star RB Mike Weber's Radar?

STORY: Detroit Cass Tech 2015 RB Mike Weber discusses his recent talks with Michigan, where they stand in his recruitment, a possible visit and more.

With the hiring of offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, Michigan has reopened some recruiting paths that otherwise might have been closed.

In particular, Detroit Cass Tech junior running back Mike Weber, who was contacted by Nussmeier recently and says the Wolverines are "definitely" back in the running for his college services.

"I talked with (Nussmeier) for a half-hour on the phone. He is real excited about recruiting me," Weber told GoBlueWolverine. "He told me it was crazy that Michigan stopped recruiting me. So when he got there he was telling me how he really wanted me (at Michigan). It made me open my eyes back up to Michigan.

"Michigan is back on the radar."

During the season Weber said he was thinking about making his final decision once his junior season concluded. But now that Michigan is showing rejuvenated interest Weber admits he will be taking a longer look at his recruitment.

"I am definitely going to slow it down now," Weber admitted. "I never thought Michigan would start recruiting me again. Now that they are showing interest in me – I have to think about other things."

Rated a four-star prospect and the No. 14 running back in the latest player rankings, Weber listed his top-five schools in no particular order as Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Tennessee.

At 5-foot-10, 205-pounds the Motor City star is a focal in a high school offense that he says is similar to the one that Nussmeier plans on bringing to Ann Arbor. And while Weber wouldn't give a definite date for a possible visit to campus, he said a visit to U-M for a basketball game will happen in the near future.

"The way the offense is setup now and the offense I am in now -- is like the offense at Michigan," Weber said. "I talked with (Nessmeier) and they have a lot to offer. He really wants me and they are more interested in me now. I am really looking forward to (visiting).

"Like, real soon."

As far as what he is looking for on his visit, Weber said: "I want to see the places again. I want to watch the basketball game. I want to talk to the coaches – that's it."

With a new outlook on his recruitment now Weber says he now plans to take all five of his five official visits this fall.
