Well, that didn't stop Michigan from extending a "surprise" offer to the four-star prospect recently, as he had a chance to talk with Wolverines' newly hired offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.
"I was surprised I would say," Barnett said on the offer. "They really didn't contact me through mail or anything for my recruiting process. So I would say it came as a surprise."
While Barnett said he is firm with his commitment to the Irish, he did admit with Michigan hiring Nussmeier makes the Wolverines a little more intriguing than they were a month ago.
"I spoke with coach Nussmeier (Monday)," Barnett recalled. "That was the first time I had spoken with him. I know he came from Alabama, obviously a great school and he's been successful there as an offensive coordinator. I know it's a big thing for him to be at Michigan. I think it is great thing as well.
"I know Michigan is a very good school. They have a very good football program as well. But I'm committed to Notre Dame."
As far as a possible visit to other schools of interest, Notre Dame has nothing to worry about -- unless something changes for the worse in South Bend, Ind. -- Barnett said he will only be taking visits to Notre Dame this year.
