Edwards is high on Michigan after visit

Downers Grove (Ill.) North '15 Ath. David Edwards recounts his latest visit to U-M, camping this summer, what an offer would mean and more.

Downers Grove (Ill.) North 2015 athlete David Edwards recently made his way to Ann Arbor in soak in the Michigan-Michigan State men's basketball game. And needless to say, the visit went "really well', according to Edwards.

"I thought it went really well," Edwards said. "Obviously, I have been up there before. I just kind of wanted to get to know the coaches a little bit better. I was really excited to be at the basketball game, it was pretty cool."

Currently, Edwards has offers from Illinois, Indiana, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin. He has planned visit with the Illini this weekend. He also planning visits this summer to Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State. And while he doesn't have an offer from the Wolverines, he made it clear what it would mean if they were to offer.

"I think that if I were to get that offer – that would definitely be on the top of my list for sure," said Edwards.

But before Michigan offers, he said offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier wants to see him at U-M football camp this summer.

"They told I would play tight end," Edwards said. "They kind of just want me to get up there for a camp. I met coach Nussmeier. I really liked him, I talked with him for a little bit. He just wants to see me run around. He said ‘I want to see your quickness. I want to see how you break guys down on your routes.' Stuff like that. I spent the most time with coach (Dan) Ferrigno, who it the tight ends coach. And I spent time with my area recruiter, coach (Curt) Mallory.

At 6-foot-6, 230-pounds, Edwards, who plays quarterback for his high school, admits he will most likely play tight in college.

"I understand tight end is the position I will play at the next level," Edwards said. "I really don't have a problem with it. I think coach Nussmeier's system they use tight ends a lot. They use them in blocking game and play-action game, man-to-man coverage, stuff like that."

With a year of football remaining, Edwards would like to make his final decision before the start of his senior season this summer.

As far as what he is looking for in a college program, Edwards said; "Academics to me is the biggest thing. .. my new thing, is life after football. I don't plan on playing in the NFL. It's really cool that some of these schools have plans to get you a job after football. And definitely how bad that school wants me."
