Decision May Be Near for Taylor

Richmond (Va.) St. Christopher's School four-star cornerback Garrett Taylor took a visit to Michigan recently. He talks about how that shaped his opinion of the Wolverines as well as when he may be ready to decide on a school.

Michigan has been recruiting four-star cornerback Garrett Taylor since last Winter, but the Wolverines' pursuit of the 6-foot-1, 187-pound junior accelerated last month when they offered him a scholarship.

Last weekend, Taylor visited Ann Arbor and got to see the campus and the school first hand.

"It kind of just gives me a place to compare other schools to and see what I really value in schools in terms of not only football but the full picture as far as academics and what schools do to set you up after [you graduate]," he said.

As far as that academic and post-football life portion of his decision, he saw what he needed to see on his trip.

"That's another thing Michigan had was good connections outside and after school, the networking with all the Michigan alums. It was great to see. It definitely gives me a point to compare the schools to to see if they have the full package I'm looking for."

He added, "It definitely puts Michigan up there. I knew I was interested in Michigan, going there solidifies my interest in them and seeing how excited they were to have me up there really meant a lot."

Currently holding over 30 scholarship offers from some of the nation's top programs, Taylor has started the process of cutting down his list.

"I think I've probably narrowed my favorites a little bit. I think it's probably between Michigan, Stanford and Tennessee. Those are the schools I'm really focusing on right now. South Carolina is still kind of in there and Michigan State is on the outside looking in. As far as narrowing it down, those three schools are probably first and the ones I want to focus on the most."

Initially wanting to wait longer before making a commitment, Taylor's timeline has been accelerated by his recent visits.

"A decision definitely could happen pretty soon. I know I definitely have to sit down with my family and talk things over, but as of this point, I think we've been everywhere we need to be. I don't know if any more visits are going to happen, but after going up to Michigan and already going out to Stanford and Tennessee a couple times, I've kind of seen those places thoroughly. As far as exact timing, I don't really know, but it might happen soon."

Sam Webb contributed to this story and will have more on Taylor in the near future.
